Complete Refurbishment at Bught Stadium, Inverness
Preserving Heritage, Delivering Innovation
We recently completed a significant phase of works at Bught Stadium, Inverness — the historic home of shinty and the proud host of the annual Camanachd Cup Final. This project demonstrates our expertise in combining heritage preservation with modern construction innovation, delivering high-quality, durable solutions that respect the stadium’s traditional identity while improving functionality and sustainability.
Bught Stadium is not just a sporting venue — it is a cultural landmark for the Scottish sport of shinty. Any refurbishment works needed to:
-
Preserve the historical appearance of the stadium stand.
-
Upgrade the structure to meet modern performance and durability standards.
-
Minimise disruption to the stadium and surrounding facilities during construction.
Balmore was tasked with delivering a solution that met these criteria, blending traditional aesthetics with innovative building materials and construction techniques.
Refurbishment and New Build
The project covered two key elements, each requiring precision planning, high-quality materials, and specialist expertise:
1. Stand Refurbishment and Re-Cladding
The existing stadium stand was fully stripped back to its structural frame, allowing for a thorough assessment and refurbishment of all components. We then installed new black and white Sinusoidal profile cladding sheets, providing a durable, weather-resistant exterior while retaining the iconic appearance of the stand.
This approach:
-
Ensured structural longevity for years to come.
-
Preserved the traditional visual identity associated with the stadium.
-
Delivered a cost-effective and efficient installation, minimising downtime and impact on stadium operations.
2. New Build Structure Using Greencoat Steel
Alongside the refurbishment, we delivered a completely new-build structure using Greencoat steel in a traditional zinc finish. Greencoat steel offers multiple advantages:
-
Appearance and Strength: Combines the classic aesthetic of zinc with the durability of modern steel.
-
On-Site Fabrication: Can be cut and shaped directly on site for precise installation, faster build times, and reduced material waste.
-
Sustainability: High recycled content and bio-based coating reduce environmental impact and lifecycle costs.
-
Resilience: Provides long-term protection against corrosion, weathering, and wear.
The use of Greencoat steel allowed us to seamlessly integrate a modern, sustainable solution while maintaining a traditional look appropriate for a heritage sports venue.
Expertise in Heritage and Innovation
This project illustrates our ability to deliver specialist construction solutions in complex environments:
-
Heritage Preservation: Maintaining the traditional identity of the stadium while implementing modern upgrades.
-
Innovative Materials: Greencoat steel allowed for sustainable, precise, and efficient construction.
-
Specialist Access and Installation: Experienced teams ensured high-quality workmanship on both the refurbished and new-build structures.
-
Efficiency and Safety: Careful planning and execution reduced material waste, minimised on-site risks, and accelerated delivery without compromising quality.
By combining traditional construction methods with innovative materials and modern engineering techniques, we ensured that Bught Stadium remains both functional and visually faithful to its heritage.
A Stadium Fit for the Future
The completed works deliver enhanced durability and performance of the stadium stand while bringing aesthetically faithful upgrades that respect the venue’s history.
Sustainable construction solutions reduce environmental impact and lifecycle costs that leaves the client with a high-quality sporting facility capable of hosting shinty events for generations to come.
Our work ensures that Bught Stadium remains a central hub for Scottish shinty, supporting both community engagement and national sporting events.
From planning and material selection to installation and final delivery, we consistently deliver projects that balance performance, sustainability, and aesthetics.
We are proud to support the legacy of shinty in Inverness while demonstrating how heritage venues can benefit from modern construction innovation.
